NUMBER – Investigate 4/5

Clap to 5 .

Clap to 5 in your head.

Clap to 3 and a child finishes it off to 5

Repeat with another number until everyone has had a go.

Ask the children to fetch 5 different objects outside if dry or inside.

Place them in front of them at their table and arrange them into 2 groups. Write this number sentence in the books.

e.g 3+2   4+1

Do it until all the number sentences are used up. Now group them in 3 groups and write these number sentences

e.g 2+2+1=5              3+1+1=5

4 groupse.g

e.g 2+1+1+1=5

then 5.

Is the answer always 5?

If time try some subtraction starting at 5.

5 take away 2 objects?

5 take away 1 object?

Ask some quiz questions e.g

We have 2 flower but we need 5 how many more do we need?

5 flowers and one got bought how many are left?

How many vases do we need for 5 flowers if they all have their own vase?
