Today school government have been re-thinking! We have been working with Fair and Funky to think of all the little steps we can make in our community to be more environmentally friendly and make a difference. Together, we've created this fantastic piece of artwork which will be on display in Holmfirth before coming back to school. Thank you to Sophie and Helen for an enjoyable afternoon. We can't wait to share our thinking with the whole school!
School Government attends a Global School Council Meeting

Yesterday, School Government attended school early to take part in a global school alliance meeting, with school governments from all around the world: one from Romania, one from Northern Island and some from England with places like Folkstone and Torquay.
The topic consisted of things we grow at school, and all the school government representatives shared their own garden, outside spaces and the things they grow at school. We shared our outside garden and our forest school as well as a mind map that the Y5 representatives produced. We also shared that Netherthong School grew kindness (this was on our mind map), which was very much liked by the other schools.
We arrived at 8:20 am on Thursday, and proceeded into the staff room and set up the zoom call. Apart from a few minor interruptions, it went well! A certain school -Heritage School, Moldova-shared their goals to help the environment, such as Meat Free Mondays, an idea where the school lunches on Mondays are completely meat free.
One school had a polytube - a plastic tube that is just the right temperature to grow many plants. The school then sold the plants to parents. Another school planted a variety of fruits and plants in their large garden.
The meeting was about an hour long with two representatives from Netherthong speaking on behalf of the government.
That’s all from me!

Meet the Mayor
admin on: School Government Blog
On Monday 27th March, the KS2 school government went on a trip to the town hall to see the Mayor. Sadly, due to health circumstances, the mayor sent his apologies for his absence.
At 9:00am Monday morning, the school government, Mrs McLoughlin and Miss Monday set off (on the bus) to the town hall.
During this visit, we got to sit in the Council Chamber (a room where the mayor and his 69 councillors sit and discuss different matters), where we took part in a Q&A, saw the royal mace (which is not lethal), and used the voting system.
The mayor, Cllr Masood Ahmed, was a local councillor 16 years before becoming the mayor of Kirklees. The law states a person must have been a councillor before being elected as mayor.
The mayor wears a red, fur robe that has many features to keep the mayor warm and comfortable.
For instance, the robe has a jabot (from the French word for the bird’s crop), which is a sort of handkerchief attached to the collar, so the Mayor doesn’t get any food down his robe when eating. The Mayor’s hat works like a gutter, so when rain collects inside the hat, it pours out of the hat far away from the face so the Mayor has no chance of getting wet.
The Mayor’s golden chain is worth over £18,000 and weighs the same as 35 Cadbury’s crème eggs!
Annabel, Y3, was chosen to wear the mayoress’ outfit and even sit in the mayors chair!
Thanks for reading!
