Neiley Races - Race 1 Results

Results are in .... Here are the individual and team results for the first Neiley race. There were over 400 runners across the four races! All the children did incredibly well and we are all very proud of them. See you all on Wednesday for the next race!

Neiley Races - Race 1

Tonight, KS2 children competed in the Neiley races. We were incredibly proud of all the children who turned up and took part. They showed great sportsmanship and worked as a team, congratulating each other after the races! Everyone has improved on their skills from the previous year and the year 3 children took to the challenge with ease. Bring on races next week!
Fun Art in Reception

This week we have had the parents in to school to work with the children on a very special art project.
The children design and made the base ready for the adults to come into school and help.
The project was inspired by Artist Samantha Bryan who is famous for the Fairies.

Netball 18th April

Well done to our wonderful KS2 netball team! We are so very proud of you all; you played so well in the netball tournament on Thursday and should be very proud of yourselves. You worked so well as a team, supporting each other throughout and maintaining fabulous positivity too.
We will continue our weekly practices and will plan to arrange more fixtures before the end of term. Well done everyone!

National Careers Week 2024

This week has been national careers week and we have had lots of different adults come and visit us to tell us about their jobs.
On Monday, we had Harry Dyson, who was a barrister, and he described what he had to do in his job and how he decided to become a barrister. We found out that he went to school in Honley, which is really near us! He also showed us the wig and cloak that he has to wear when he is going into court. Thank you so much Harry for coming to explain your job and potentially inspire new barristers.
On Tuesday, we had a visit from Duncan, who is a development chef, and Lorna, who is a nutritionist. Duncan spoke to the children about how he choose to became a chef and the previous jobs he did. He explained that he has worked in lots of different restaurants, hotels and now designs menus for different schools and hospitals. Lorna spoke about how we need to eat the correct food to have a balanced diet and how she helps businesses to ensure that this is happening.
On Wednesday, Jane Raleigh came to visit us who is a Neuro Physiotherapist. She talk to us about what she has to do every day and how she changes it every visit she does to adapt to the patients needs. She explain the qualifications that children who need to get in order to do her job. Jane then told us about the different people she has visited on Tuesday which included adults and children. Her daughter, Lois, came up to the front and demonstrated some activities that can help people in their sessions. Thank you so much Jane, both children and teachers found this useful and informative!
On Thursday, Key Stage 2 had a visit from Kathy Lee came to talk to the children about her job as a book keeper and owning her own accountancy company. She explained her day-to-day tasks and even showed the children an example account (a made-up one!). Kathy showed how maths is really important to help 'balance' the money coming in and going out of accounts. The children had lots of questions which Kathy gladly answered. A big thank you from Key Stage 2!
Musica Jazz Recital

We were lucky enough on Tuesday to have the Musica Jazz ensemble come and perform for the whole school. The recital covers musical instruments, science of sound, key vocabulary and different styles and genres of music. We had a teacher from each family of instruments, the string, woodwind, percussion and brass families, they brought a range of instruments to show us while performing different pieces of music. They talked about how their instruments make the sounds they do and how you can change the pitch, dynamic and tempo when playing the instruments. We had lots of fun joining in with the actions, feeling the different mouthpieces and even creating our own piano! We ended our session by joining in with the song, I'm Still Standing. Thank you to the Musica Jazz team, we had so much fun!
Remembrance Day 2023

Today, the whole school came together in our merit assembly and took part in a 2 minutes silence, as we are not going to be in school tomorrow. During this time, we remembered all of the people and animals who we have lost and those who are still helping to keep us safe. We are incredibly proud of how all of the children conducted themselves.
Year 5 have been learning the poem, In Flanders Field, and they performed this in assembly for the whole school. It was incredibly moving so thank you Miss Eastwood and Year Five!
Each day, year 6 children have been coming into class with poppies and we have been donating to this very worthy cause.
Reception were busy in the run up to this important day and have created some beautiful stained glass window poppies which we have put on our library windows.

House captain and Vice-Captain elections

At the start of a new school year, the school chooses new house captains for our houses; Pitcher, Booth, Hayley-Porteous and Stewart. Children in Year 6 wrote speeches if they were interested in running for these roles and recorded them for us to watch. In class, we listened to the speeches, which were fantastic, and then democratically voted for who we thought would make a good house captain. Our votes were put with the results of the other classes in school and the house captain and vice-captain were announced in assembly on Friday.
Harvest Live

On Wednesday, Key Stage 1 and 2 took part in NFU Education's Harvest Live! We looked at how to make a delicious Palak Paneer dish. We learnt how to grow onions, spinach and coriander, along with understand which part of the plant they come from and how to prepare them safely. We then went on a quest to discover where the milk we needed to make the paneer cheese came from, meeting the robots who do the milking and feeding the calves on Farmer Elaine's diary farm.
