Hold the sentence: I can see the seeds.
You can make up your own just make sure your child is not just copying your sentence they are working it out themselves.
e.g The cart has two wheels.
Number -
Counting forwards and backwards. Sing days of the week and months of the year if you can remember these.
You need groups of objects today up to 20.
Talk about a good estimate. If it is nearly right it is a good estimate.
We can think in our head what 5 or 10 looks like.
Put the objects into piles and label them.
less than 10 less than 20 between 10 and 20
Then count to see what is a good estimate.
Now put 10 pasta shapes in a tub and shake them. Secretly add more - can your child make a guess at the amount in the tub? More or less? Then a number removing or adding items.
This can be played outside estimating number of sheep in the field, birds, flowers etc.
TOPIC- Food diary
Today is the Cancer Research running/exercise challenge.
Here is a power point of information all about how to be healthy.
Get out into your gardens or do a big walk thinking of helping other people who are less fortunate then yourself. This might be a good time to talk to your child about worries that they may have and reassure them that they are safe with you and if they do get ill that we have our amazing NHS to look after us all and help us to get better.

Race for Life

So the Netherthong Race for Life is tomorrow at 1pm! I know so many of you have organised your own event in your gardens and surrounding areas. We have had so much support through the fundraising link, we are now at around 75% of our £1000 target. Please keep sharing this link so that we can reach our goal.
If you take any photos or videos of your event, please email them to class2@netherthongprimary.co.uk If you send in your pictures, we will automatically presume you give us permission to use on the website and other sites associated with Cancer Research. I hope to put some kind of montage together when I recover from running around the playground! This will be a wonderful whole school collaboration at a time when we can’t be together. Good luck – knowing that you are all there will spur me on, I’m sure!

Hold a sentence: The month is May or I can play in the day.
NUMBER – This week we are counting sets of objects, ordering numbers, reading and writing numbers.
Key Vocab – guess, how many? More/less, about, between nearly, fewer
You will need a set of objects up to 20 (pasta/buttons/beads/pencils/) socks and numbers to 20.
- Warm up- Fill 2 socks with small objects (start with low numbers). Your child needs to guess how many objects are in each sock and match this to a written number. Remind them as it’s a guess (estimate) if they are wrong it doesn’t matter they just need to be as close as they can.
Empty out the socks count to check. The language used is: Are there more or less/fewer than your guess?
How many more or less/fewer? How can we work this out?
Get the children to close their eyes and imagine looking at 5 pencils.
Show your child 3 pencils briefly. Were there more than 5 or less?
Say – we can guess there were fewer than 5
We guess the number of pencils was less than 5 so we made a good guess.
Discuss would 30 be a good guess? No
Repeat with different groups of objects (7/4/5/2) staying with the 5 in your head.
Introduce vocabulary through questioning.
e.g Are there more than 3, about 5, nearly 10:is the number more than 10? Is it less than 20? Is it between 10 and 20?
Family activity.
Add objects to a container. Go round the family and ask them to guess how many are in the pot. Write the answers down. Open the container and count them to see who has made the best guess.

What is a fruit?
It is actually the part of the plant that keeps the seeds safe. If you cut into any fruit you will find seeds. Berries like strawberries have their seeds on the outside. Fruit is often soft and juicy so if it drops from a tree it will protect the seeds inside like a pear, apple or an orange. The fruit is also food for the seeds to start to grow.
You can continue the food diaries adding the fruit that you eat each day.
It is recommend by the government to eat 5 different types of fruit or vegetables a day to get all the vitamins and minerals you need to keep healthy.
In my house we all love fruit and vegetables,.
If you are unsure about trying new foods I recommend that you lick the fruit first to try its flavour then maybe cut 'fairy' bites. Little steps are needed to introduce new foods. Again don’t worry too much about spellings of the fruit and vegetables.

Which of these fruit do we grow in this country? Why?
Talk about the different fruits you have in your house and find out which countries they have come from.
Can you find these countries on a map?
If available cut open a fruit to find the seeds. You can have a go at planting them to see if the will grow. Remind yourself of what a seeds will need to grow? There is also a bit of fraction work here. Two halves makes a whole, 4 quarters makes a whole.

NUMBER - 2 activities available
-Make your own shape hunt looking for and describing 2D and 3D shape properties.
-Another good challenge is to make 2D shapes outside with sticks.
How many sticks do we need to make a triangle, square, rectangle, hexagon and pentagon?
Challenge is to make a 3D pyramid or cube you can use string or to secure corners.
Maths seeds is also available.
TOPIC – Food diary
Make a salad for lunch or tea with what you have available.
Talk about which part of the plants you are eating. It can be arranged in a creative way.
Remember many plants and berries you see if your gardens can be can poisonous.
You must never eat plants in your garden unless a grown up tells you you can. Leave them for the birds!
