NUMBER – Prices tell us how much to pay

Key Vocab- price, cost, change, how much is left?

You will need all 7 British coins.

Look at all the coins you have in your purse. Group them.

1p 2p 5p 10p 20p 50p £1 £2

Low value coins are bronze, then silver then gold.

Play ‘banks’. Have a large section of coins and children sort them into the different compartments.

If they are happy with this have a game of shops pricing up a few items to pay for and get change.

Money is tricky so you may just get 10x 1p's to start with until they understand the value of different coins.

Start with 10p and choose items less than 10p. You made add two together

3p apple + 4p banana = 7p

How much change will we get from the 10p? (3p)

TOPIC – The Tree and Flower hunt!

Go on a walk and see if you can identify as many trees as you can?

How will you do this?

You may have a book to identify trees and flowers.

Its also a nice idea to take a rainbow and see if you can find these colours in nature?

You could use your skills and take pictures as you go?

What can you hear?

What can you smell?

What insects can you see?

Thank-you and  have a great walk!

Fancy some World Record breaking art?

admin on: Reception

Isabel, in year 2, pointed this out to me and I had to pass it along ...

Like many of us, you may have been enjoying Rob Biddulph’s brilliant Draw with Rob draw along videos, which have amassed a huge online following and now been watched over 2 million times on YouTube.

On May 21st, Rob is going to attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the World’s Biggest Art Lesson

Rob will be live on YouTube at 4.00pm (BST) but in order for the attempt to meet Guinness World Records’ criteria we need participants – young and old –  to register for the free lesson at www.artworldrecords.com and be there for the whole 30 minutes.

The attempt will also help to raise money for those most impacted by COVID-19.  Participants can donate what they can and companies have also begun to pledge financial support. These donations will go towards high impact charities to counter the impact of COVID-19, including stopping the disease’s spread, providing immediate relief to those most impacted and preventing future pandemics.

Home Learning Tuesday 19th May

admin on: Reception

Here is something from Miss H,

Hello everyone, we are going to spread a smile!

Mrs Barker introduced something to us called 'Padlet' which is like a virtual piece of paper that we can all get to and write on! If you click on the link below, you will be sent to a new window. Hopefully, you will see that I have started us off by adding a couple of posts to make you smile! If you double click on the piece of paper or click the 'plus' button, you can begin typing. In the title part, I'd like you to put your name, then we can see who has contributed. You need to write your message to everyone then press the enter button. You can add images or doodles that you can draw by pressing on the ellipsis (...). I am very much looking forward to your posts to make me and others smile! Here is a link to our Padlet:

Spread a Smile - Padlet

Thank-you Miss Hemingway for that I am sure it will be lots of fun.

Here we go today!

 Number – Doubles

Key Vocab-double, count on, add

  • Use pairs of socks , gloves shoes to count on in twos.
  • Use some example. One sandwich has two slices of bread. How many slices do we need for 5 sandwiches? 4,2,6 etc…
  • There are 4 cakes in a packet we have 2 packets how many all together?
  • Find the doubles in a set of dominos.

How look at halves.

How can we find half of 12? Remind them of cutting an apple in half. How many parts is a half? 2

So we put the 12 objects into 2 piles. We have halved them.

Repeat with other numbers.

Record this in your own way. Pictorial or use real objects.

Half of 12 is 6

000000/000000=12

6 is half

12= 000000000000             colour half

TOPIC-  Instructions for planting

If available have a look at the   How to grow a sunflower big book

Tell you child that instruction are not a story, they are a set of bossy sentences?

e.g

  1. Put dirt in a pot.
  2. Stick finger in the dirt for seed to go.
  3. Pat dirt flat.
  4. Water the seed.

Can you write your own set of instruction for planting a seed into your little booklets. Just a couple today and you can finish them off tomorrow if its too much. Four or five will do.

You can illustrate sentences with a picture.

Well done everyone. Times are changing and we may see you soon!
